The purpose of this qualification is to equip frontline domestic abuse practitioners with the knowledge, understanding, and practical skills required to deliver safe, effective, and person-centred support. It focuses on both the prevention of domestic abuse and early intervention, enabling learners to identify risk, respond appropriately, and support individuals before harm escalates.

The qualification recognises the diverse range of roles within the domestic abuse sector, including Independent Domestic Violence Advisors (IDVAs), Young People’s Violence Advisors (YPVAs), case managers working with perpetrators on behaviour change programmes, and other specialist practitioners. While there is a core body of knowledge and skills that underpins safe and effective practice across all roles, practitioners may require additional expertise to meet the specific needs of the individuals and communities they support.

To support ongoing professional development, the qualification combines mandatory units that establish essential practice knowledge with a range of optional units that allow learners to develop specialist skills relevant to their role. This flexible approach enables practitioners and employers to tailor learning pathways to individual development needs, supporting continued growth and progression within the domestic abuse sector.
