OCN London Supports the Launch of the Level 5 Award in Digital Leadership in Adult Social Care

Tuesday 1st April 2025

OCN London is proud to support the official launch of the Level 5 Award in Digital Leadership, through our qualification – the OCNLR Level 5 Award in Understanding Digital Leadership in Adult Social Care.

On 3 January 2025, the government announced a series of immediate actions to improve adult social care, alongside the formation of an independent commission. These steps form part of its long-term ambition to establish a National Care Service.

One of the critical shifts underway is the move from analogue to digital systems in adult social care. This transformation is essential to delivering high-quality, safe, efficient, and person-centred care. However, it requires a confident and digitally skilled workforce that feels supported in embedding new ways of working.

Leaders—such as managers, supervisors, senior practitioners in care, and local authority commissioners—play a key role in this digital transition. They are often responsible for selecting, implementing, and leading the use of technology within care services. Despite this, there has historically been a gap in digital leadership training: in 2021, 69% of registered managers reported that they did not receive the digital skills training needed during their initial training.

To address this need, and with support from Skills for Care and the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), OCN London has developed a specialist qualification aligned with the Level 5 Digital Leadership specification. The OCNLR Level 5 Award in Understanding Digital Leadership in Adult Social Care aligns with the Digital Skills Framework and comprises three mandatory units focused on building learners’ understanding of how to lead the implementation of care technologies.

Employers can access funding for this qualification through the Learning and Development Support Scheme (LDSS), which covers staff training costs and makes it easier to upskill teams effectively.

This new Level 5 qualification complements our existing Level 2 Certificate in Adult Social Care, providing LDSS-funded options both for those entering the sector and for experienced staff looking to strengthen their digital leadership capabilities.
