Spotlight on Positive Dyslexia Limited. Dyslexia Awareness week 2nd-8th October 2023

Tuesday 3rd October 2023

Its Dyslexia Awareness week and we wanted to take the opportunity to highlight one of our amazing Centres, Positive Dyslexia Ltd, who work tirelessly to raise awareness of dyslexia and co-occurring difficulties as well as supporting the needs of both adults and children.

We recently spoke with its founder, Katrina Cochrane, to find out more.

Tell us a little more about how Positive Dyslexia started and the work that you do to support individuals with Dyslexia?

Positive Dyslexia was set up in 2016 because I really wanted to use my experience and knowledge working for the two main dyslexia charities to support individuals and raise awareness of dyslexia for parents, schools and employers. Its really important to us that we work with individuals with dyslexia from all backgrounds and walks of life. Not only do we offer advice and guidance but we also deliver assessment and training services, as well as hosting a number of dedicated conferences every year.

How does the working partnership with OCN London support your aims and objectives?

Having accredited training is very important to Positive Dyslexia and the communities we support. The working partnership between us and OCN London allows us to offer high quality, accessible training that encompasses our knowledge and expertise, and is validated by a well respected awarding organisation.

Could you tell us about the qualifications you have developed with us and what you hope to achieve with them?

We offer a bespoke Level 3 qualification for those supporting learners with dyslexia, and we are about to offer a Level 4 qualification which is designed for those in a workplace environment alongside colleagues with dyslexia . This training will enable employers to screen and carry out workplace assessments to ensure they have appropriate resources and support in place. By taking this approach, more individuals can be identified and supported correctly and it will allow them to reach their true potential both in education and workplace settings.
