Digital Functional Skills Qualifications are coming soon to OCN London

Thursday 9th February 2023

OCN London’s team is currently hard at work developing our Digital Functional Skills Qualifications and resources, and we hope to deliver more detailed information to our centres in the coming months.

Entry Level 3 and Level 1 Digital Functional Skills credentials will be available from OCN London. They will be capped at 55 Guided Learning Hours, with assessments determined by us. In the meantime, here’s some essential information on Digital Functional Skills Qualifications and what you can do in the run up to them being available.

What are Digital Functional Skills Qualifications (DFSQs)?

According to guidance from the Department for Education, DFSQs should serve the following functions:

  • Provide reliable evidence of a student’s achievements against content relevant to the workplace and real life
  • Assess a student’s knowledge and skills, as well as their ability to apply these in different contexts.
  • Provide a foundation for progression into employment or further education, as well as develop skills for everyday life.

Some Entry Level students who have little or no prior experience with digital devices or the internet may require assistance in handling and using digital devices, such as turning on a device and using a mouse or keyboard, before progressing on to the knowledge and skills outlined.

As part of completing tasks and activities, students at Entry Level and Level 1 are expected to demonstrate the knowledge and skills outlined in the subject content.

Where can I find more information about the content of DFSQs?

You can read the whole document from the Department for Education here, which sets out the purpose, learning aims and outcomes, and subject content common to Digital Functional Skills qualifications at Entry Level 3 and Level 1.
